saving This rug is made from upholstery selvedge. As you can see it is all made in black and white. The upholstery rugs are thick, heavy rugs. I purchase it by "color" by the pound and it arrives in bundled in plastic bags ready to be untangled.
The weft of the rug is 100% cotton thread in an off-white color. Measurements are the actual rug without the fringe. (With fringe measurements are 21" Wide x 51"Long). My loom is a homemade Sievers 4 harness loom made of maple wood. It is a heavy loom that handles making rugs with ease.
My experience with the selvedge rugs is that they shed a few fibers to start with. They also become fluffier with time as the strands of fiber work their way out of the weft threads.
Rug is machine washable on the gentle cycle, using cold water. Hang to dry. (I washed one of mine tonight and put it in the dryer). If one side becomes dirty, it can always be flipped over and used on the other side before washing.
I have been weaving for several years. The local school listed the loom and all the weaving equipment on Facebook as a sealed bid auction. I was the only bidder. Thankfully, it came threaded and I've been able to figure things out. I had always wanted a floor loom since I had heard stories and seen rugs that my great-grandmother had wove. My Dad remembers weaving with his Grandma and has been able to pass on some tips I didn't pickup from reading or online.
From a non-smoking home.
