Circa 1960s Rare find 23” across saving front, laying flat 23” long, from shoulder to bottom 16” opening around armhole 24” opening around neck 46” bust and waist circumference A unique vintage velvet hand embroidered huipil (square-cut blouse). This black velvet blouse has an exquisite texture with hand embroidered green flowers and borders. The same pattern adorns both the front and the back. A huipil remains as the most common traditional garment worn by indigenous women from central Mexico into Central America. These blouses are handmade, one of a kind, each usually taking at least one month to complete. This textile art form has been passed down from generation to generation in Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico and dates back to pre-Colonial times. This style of clothing was made popular by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and is currently very boho chic.
