Real human incisor tooth added to a vintage, gold plated open heart brooch. The tooth itself measures 1 inch and is set in a gold plated saving finding. The open brooch component is thick with nice scrolled design detail, but not heavy. The piece measures 1.75 x 1.75 inches. The roll over clasp closure on the back measures 1.5 inches and still closes and opens well.

All of our teeth come from dental schools. Students of dentistry need volunteers to work on. Schools will actually pay certain people to have students work on them, like pull their impacted wisdom teeth, so students can have the experience on real people. The school then gives the teeth to companies that pick up " biohazards" from hospitals, schools and other institutions. These companies dispense with some of the organic matter from these places, but clean and sell others. Teeth are professionally cleaned and sold, mostly back to schools, but sometimes to artists like me!
