•Wenge generally contains a close, straight grain with a very coarse texture and a low natural luster
•Medium weight and hardness

•May be difficult to work with hand and machine tools
•May have a blunting effect on cutting edges
•May be difficult to evenly sand between light and dark areas due to differences in density
•Very splintery—care must be used saving when handling unfinished wood with bare hands
