Description

Product Name: Chinese Porcelain Pottery Bracelet (1970-1985) 7”- Well Constructed and saving Designed

This is a porcelain pottery shard bracelet made in China sometime between 1975-1985. Bracelets of this design became a must have fashion accessory, it is obvious why…it is such an exquisite look, exotic, absolutely eye-catching and a bit cultured. Perfect with summer whites and jeans, these Chinese export bracelets exemplified the concept of unique everyday wear.

The pottery used in these bracelets was harvested from broken “Blue and White Ware”, that could not be exported internationally. Some of these bracelets even contained pottery from the 18th and 19th centuries, although this is not the case with this bracelet. Each of these bracelets were artisan crafted from different porcelain shards so no two were alike. It was a clever way to saving reclaim material and created some of the most unique designs ever to be exported.

As with all fashion moments some of these beautiful bracelets were made inexpensively and some were made with precious metals and gemstones. This bracelet falls somewhere in the middle. The cabochons are uniform which is a sign of quality. They also have a clear pattern of rich blue and stark white, another sign. The patterns chosen are well considered and beautifully arranged. The construction is lovely with a nice sturdy fold over clasp and solid joints. The bracelet also moves comfortably on the wrist. It is 7” long and will fit small to medium wrists.

About Chinese Blue and White Ware:
Blue and white pottery" (Chinese: 青花; pinyin: qīng-huā; lit. 'Blue flowers/patterns') covers a wide range of white pottery and porcelain decorated under the glaze with a blue pigment, generally cobalt oxide. The decoration is commonly applied by hand, originally by brush painting, but nowadays by stencilling or by transfer-printing, though other methods of application have also been used. The cobalt pigment is one of the very few that can withstand the highest firing temperatures that are required, in particular for porcelain, which partly accounts for its long-lasting popularity. Historically, many other colours required overglaze decoration and then a second firing at a lower temperature to fix that.
This type of porcelain has been made in China from the 14th century to today.
