Hand Turned Spalted Scrub Oak Bowl - 6" Wide saving By 2 1/2 High

This rustic bowl is made from a piece of heavily spalted scrub oak that was exposed to water for a long period of time. This provided an opportunity for the spalting to flourish and create the interesting color patterns in the wood.

Spalting is a fungus that works its way through decaying wood. If you catch the spalting process at the right time, it makes beautiful patterns in the wood. If you catch it too late, you are too late and the results are just a rotten piece of wood.
