1944 Casting and Foundry Handbook, Metal Casting Operator Book, Metallurgy, Machine Tool Design and Operation Industrial saving Salvage

I just love old technical manuals and handbooks like this one. I think they are fascinating not only because they reveal the state of the art of the time, but they also help us realize how some things, like mathematical principles, never change. This volume is the "Cast Metals Handbook", written by committee of the American Foundrymen's association, this was a reference book for cast metal design and shop casting practices for the foundry worker, metallurgist, mechanical engineer, draftsman, toolmaker, and machinist. Published in 1944 by the American Foundrymen's Association of Chicago, Illinois, and since it was printed in war time, it conserves paper and materials. This is an authentic book of the period - it is not a reproduction, not a re-print, not a digital print. As the Preface says, the objective of the book "is to present to engineers, designers, all users of castings, editors of engineering handbooks and engineering students, condensed, authoritative and up-to-date data on cast metals." The well illustrated book offers 756 pages with a detailed index and the book is in fair to good condition. The soft cover has seen a little wear, and the interior pages are all in good condition, with no rips, no missing pages, no dog ears, no stains, and only a little bit of foxing. This was once owned in 1945 by Dennis Harvey, as his name and date are written in cursive inside the front cover, and there is also a printed label with Lowell Kendrick's name and Texas address inside the front cover. The book measures about 9 1/4" by 6 1/4" by 1 1/2" thick and it weighs about 2 1/2 pounds. In fair condition.
