Pair of Art Deco Chess Knight Horse head design bookends.
They are hand-carved made of alabaster. Beautiful white/translucent horse heads. The base is a dark marble slab in a black, green, gray, white marble pattern. Polished on top and sides but unpolished on bottom.
Hermes style horses, great mid century modern design.
The horse heads are screwed on as evidenced by one screw per each base.
Slight thin surface wear near eyes of horse. Not sure is this is a natural part of the hand carving process or an actual blemish. It is hard to see, easier felt than saving by sight. Does not take about from the beautiful details or quality of these bookends. Otherwise this set is in terrific vintage condition.
This set is heavy. Would look nice paired with any style. A great set for your study, office, bookshelf, also makes a great graduation, retirement, book lover or chess lover gift item!
Measures: each horse measures 7.5” tall, 5” wide and 2 3/4” thick.
