Early Micro Mosaic Italian saving Brooch Pin - Octagonal Floral Design on Brass Setting - Victorian Revival - 1930's
This is a very sweet and well designed elongated octagonal pin made.
This is a very sweet and well designed elongated octagonal pin made in Italy. It's earlier than most on the market today and shows strong value on workmanship. It's quite small, but packed with micro tiles with an additional 3-dimensional layer. The floral grouping sits atop an orange-red background of tesserae. The brass framing is a rope design and then there's a finer detailed border next to the tile work. You won't find many pins with saving this additional layer of tile. It is quite special and indeed rare. I've only seen one other such example.
Though this measures only 1-1/4" long (3.3cm) it is a fine example of the high quality work of the Italian artist who made it. As with many of the older pins I've sold, the pin extends slightly beyond the brooch itself. Though there are some signs of age and not perfect, I would say this pin is in excellent vintage condition.
