Mala's are sacred gifts, whether saving you are buying for yourself or a beautiful gift for someone else. Mala's are powerful meditation tool for intentions and have form, function and beauty and will help ground you and act as a daily reminder to focus on what you want or need to manifest. You can use these for any religion as a rosary or prayer beads as the number 108 is sacred in many religions, but especially to Buddhists. You can create a simple mantra, affirmation, or prayer, and repeat it as you touch each bead. To use for stress and calming, simply repeat 'ohm' for every bead. Beads absorb energy, so never wear or use the beads when angry or upset, or let negative people touch your mala - remember they are scared and absorb life energies. I often chant positive mantra's when knotting them, so they arrive charged with healing and positive energy!
In Sanskrit, “mala” means garland. “Japa” means repetition. Simply wearing a mala around your neck/wrist or having them nearby (like on an altar or table) when you meditate or practice positive affirmations, will help keep you connected to that meditative state.
Why Are Malas Made Of 108 Beads? The number 108 represents the number of existence. In the yogic tradition, there are 108 sacred texts, 108 sacred sites in India, and 108 marma points (sacred sites of the body). The Sun's diameter is 108 times that of the diameter of the Earth, while the Sun to Earth distance is 108 times the Sun's diameter. The number 108 is also sacred in other religions.
Why knot the mala? Besides making it aesthetically appealing and more beautiful, if the mala breaks, the semi-precious stones or wood beads will not be lost and the knots will keep the rest in tact. Knotting is a craft which has been done for centuries and takes lots of practice to get each one perfectly spaced between beads. Each mala has at least 110 knots! I've knotted hundreds of mala's and find the task very soothing, calming, and comforting. These feelings are embedded in the knots and will be instilled on the wearer. I never knot mala's if I'm in a bad mood or angry, as those feeling would be passed on.
These beads have been specifically selected for their metaphysical powers as they receive their energy and power from nature itself. This can be worn as a lovely piece of energy jewelry, or used in meditation, prayer, or contemplation. Makes a nice affirmation reminder necklace so you can focus and concentrate on goals and affirmations by repeating them as you touch each bead on the strand. Very nice unisex mala and comes with hand stamped bag to keep your mala in.
Prayer beads are used by various religious traditions including Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and Bahá'í Faith to count the repetitions of prayers, chants or devotions, such as the rosary of Virgin Mary in Christianity, and dhikr (remembrance of God) in Islam.
